what i'm up to now — a snapshot, current as of the last time i bothered to update it.
Now Last updated: August 2026
I let the machines write more of the code now, after several years writing it by hand, carefully, compliantly. This has turned out to be an interesting and surprisingly welcome shift. Strangely I'm finding I enjoy reading code and critiquing it more than writing it. I guess that's the old editor in me.
Most recent role: VP of Engineering, Oula Health (maternity/OB-GYN care), 2023–2026
- Led engineering + IT (incl. infosec), fully remote, distributed team
- Stack: Next.js/TypeScript, Python/FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS; migrating a legacy Rails API to FastAPI
- Reported directly to CEO; sat on operating council
Prior: Engineering leadership at Sema4/GeneDX (genomics/healthtech). Earlier career in media/ad-tech (M. Shanken Communications) — CMS ownership, early ad-tech integration work. The full arc lives at /then.
What I'm spending real time on right now:
- Agentic and AI-assisted SDLC practices — specifically the harder question of how you introduce this to a small, technically strong, appropriately skeptical team without hand-waving
- HL7/FHIR and pragmatic enterprise health-system interoperability
- Actively talking to teams about what's next — VP/Head of Engineering, healthtech preferred, open to adjacent regulated spaces (or, honestly, somewhere with a little less regulatory drag, if the mission still holds up)
If any of that overlaps with what you're building, say hello: contact
