I think it&#039;s important to note, as you did here, that Clemons isn&#039;t saying ads will disappear or not be profitable at all, only that their influence will be permanently diminished.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I think Clemons makes a couple excellent points in his article.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;It&#039;s clearly true that we don&#039;t want/trust advertising -- we never have.  Ads exist to persuade us, not to provide us with helpful information.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The crucial characteristic of the Internet is that it makes it so we don&#039;t have to see ads.
